Doing our bit for the environment

Craig and Anna organised and participated with a group of over 40 fellow mountain bikers from the Wollongong area to do a clean up of illegally dumped waste on Mount Keira on December 12, 2021. More than 40 mountain bikers spent around 3 hours retrieving a variety of junk dumped off the side of the road.

The junk included around 100 car & truck tyres, enough car parts to build a couple of cars, fridges, lounges, mattresses, miscellaneous furniture, crates, pallets, loads of electrical cabling, scrap metal, fencing, corrugates iron, toilets along with over 40 large hessian bags of cans, bottles and general litter. All sorts of household and commercial waste.

In total we estimated that we piled up several tonnes of junk with council lined up to retrieve it all the following day. They will have their job cut out to clear it all with several truck loads to clear.

It’s a great feeling to do something positive for the environment while connecting with some great people with common interests.
